Multiple Screenings

A friend of mine has seen the Bond movie SKYFALL more than a dozen times since it opened. I don't think I have ever seen a movie more than twice at a theater and I am crazy about movies. Now over an extended period, the rules change. Or for me at least.

What movie did you see the most times at a theater? And how many times?

Hmm.... I honestly don't think I've ever seen a film more than once at the theatre, Patti.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I lost count around 20.

At the movies? We've seen a bunch of movies twice but I certainly can't ever remember paying to see something more than twice.

In the early days (before electricity!) we'd go to see double features (remember those?) most weeks so occasionally saw a movie we'd already seen. This is how we ended up seeing REPULSION twice!

Over the years we've occasionally sat through a movie twice in a row - AMERICAN HOT WAX comes to mind - but we only paid once.

The last movie we saw twice that I can remember is JUNO, which we saw in Brooklyn and then saw a second time in Florida. But that time we went to see another movie (DEFINTIELY, MAYBE) and walked into JUNO afterwards.

Back in the day, you bought a ticket and stayed until you were ready to leave; so in my teen years, I saw a number of movies more than once. The movie I paid to see the most was "Animal House," which I saw in at least ten different shows. This is followed closely by "Blazing Saddles," which was the last time I was told I needed a parent or adult guardian to get into a movie! I must have seen that (with or without aforementioned guardian) at least six times in its first release. I think the last movie I saw more than once in the theater was "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

JAWS in '75, three times that summer.

We were laughing over my mother's behavior when we were kids. If she went to a movie she'd just walk in without paying attention to when the movie started. I can still remember her taking us to see WEST SIDE STORY and walking in after the rumble! We had no idea of what was going on. Then when the movie came around again she's say, "This is where we came in. Let's go."

Maybe that's why I'm like Alvy Singer in ANNIE HALL. If a movie has started already I won't go in.

We went to see many movies in downtown Philly. We never knew what time the movie started either. So we would do the same thing as Mrs. Meyerson and leave where we came in or stay to see it through the second time.
Titanic seemed good to me when it came out. Now not.
I was so scared after seeing JAWS the first time I have never seen it again.
I saw Juno twice. And Priest. And Annie Hall, Manhattan and several other early Woodys.

Yes, ANNIE HALL. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. ANIMAL HOUSE.

I went to STAR WARS three times, then saw it at least a dozen or more times after it came out on video in various formats. It's the film I have seen the most times, followed by KING KONG, WAR OF THE WORLDS, and ALIEN. Seems to be a theme there...

I have seen Star Wars every time it has come back out and on TV once or twice. Also CLOSE ENCOUNTERS.

I had to kill an evening waiting for a ride home once and saw SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL twice. That's two times in a row. Consecutively. I disliked it the first time and loathed it the second. Not even the wonderful Natalie Wood could save this dog.

I remember it as awful as well.

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S when I was fourteen.

It played for about six weeks in 1962 at the Bruin Westwood in L.A. as a second feature (remember those?). Saw it about a dozen times. Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly was my first hopeless crush.

(And sadly, "giving...{my}...heart to a wild thing" like Ms. Golightly was a dangerous imprint for my early romances)

None, Patti, except on television. On average I watch a movie in a theatre every three months.

Even girls had a crush on Audrey. And especially in this movie.

Never seen a movie more than once at the theater. That would just seem like a waste of money to me.

Raiders of The Lost Ark I think I saw a half dozen times in a theater, the last time on it's final day in the local theaters. I was the sole viewer. Other than that, none more than twice.

I'm with Randy - Raiders of the Lost Ark played for a solid year at the dollar theater near my house, and my best friend and I went and saw it every couple of months.
