If less of his work was based on self-pitying misogyny and viciously childish humor, I might see why the typical NPR listener tends to cleave to this guy as their favorite (and frequently only) rapper.
Of course, that's certainly one popular thread of rap...Gil Scott-Heron at his sulkiest had a more empathetic and less "fronting" expression than Mathers at what best of his I've heard. And there are a lot who've followed more on GSH's example.
Todd is generous. I'd like to kick the kid in the butt. Perhaps I'm not his target audience.
I suspect his time has come and gone, just based on what my own kids say and what I hear kids in the high school where I work say. However, I must admit I do like his song "The Real Slim Shady," but that's over a decade ago.

I have to say I agree with Todd's point about Mathers' misogyny. It's in so many of his songs. That's enough for me. No, thanks.
