Forgotten Movies, Bunny Lake Is Missing

Ah, a scene where junket is mentioned. So it did exist and was like swill and slime according to this movie.

Although I never thought Carol Lynley was much of an actress, this is a favorite movie. Since Keir Dullea had a similar wooden yet stagey style, they fit together well.

A young woman brings her child to a new school in England and the girl's not there at the close of school. No one can remember seeing her and the police (Laurence Olivier) begin to suspect the mother is mentally ill. Especially when her brother (Keir Dullea) doesn't help her case.

This is a nice tight little movie. Suspenseful and well made by Otto Preminger in 1965. It runs on TCM now and then.

And the best drop-in of a British Invasion band of any of the films that chose to do so, with the Zombies playing on the television in the pub.

Not one I've seen, but then Lindley isn't a favorite of mine either, nor is Keir Dullea (except in his stunning performance in David and Lisa.

I remember that one well and he was suited to that part.

Love those Zombies.

This was based on a novel by Evelyn Piper (rn: Merriam Modell) and the script was by John & Penelope Mortimer.

Rick, Dullea did have another memorable moment on screen: his confrontation with HAL in 2001.

We saw him on stage opposite Blythe Danner in BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE and opposite Elizabeth Ashley in CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, both in the 1970's.

I can imagine him being very good in Butterflies but not so good in Cat opposite Ashley. She would eat him alive but maybe that's the point.

Yes, he was good in 2001 as well, you're right, Jeff.

I've never seen this, but I do love the little jingle the Zombies (of "Time of the Season" fame) recorded for it. They rewrote their own "Just Out of Reach" as "Come on Time" to tout the show. Check it out here: http://youtu.be/49SKtl0ByTQ

Now I'll have to actually track down the movie.

I vaguely recall the particulars of this film but remember enough to know that it definitely had it moments of suspense. Will have to to catch it again to get all of the specifics.

"Come on Time" mocks the hell out of the film, too.

I think I saw this once upon a time, Patti. But damn if I can remember much at all. I always liked Carol Lynley in BLUE DENIM opposite Brandon DeWilde.

Patti, you're exactly right; he was good in BUTTERFLIES (and of course I love Blythe Danner) but Ashley blew him off the stage as Maggie the Cat. Just checked - Fred Gwynne and Kate Reid were Big Daddy and Big Momma.

Rather sad that one can see THE BROWN BUNNY but not BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING at the Crackle site, at least in the US. (THE BROWN BUNNY is in a class with CALIGULA and IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES, in the sense that it's a rather [very] bad film with one activity as a highlight.)

Thankfully I missed that one.
